I Jornada Internacional
1st International Journey

At the 1st REDD International Conference (scheduled for October, November and December 2024), we heard from and discussed with researchers who have contributed immensely to tackling the difficulties involved in understanding the phenomenon of disinformation and how it works. What we contemporarily call disinformation emerges as a multifaceted and complex phenomenon due to new technologies and algorithmic systems that guarantee it an unprecedented reach in terms of dissemination. The current reach and capillarity of disinformation seems to be directly related to the disruption of what we call here the epistemic-informational environment. The guests are working on projects that allow us to think about (i) the elements that contribute to this disruption and corrosion of trust in institutions and the establishment of a chaotic environment, and (ii) the reasons that drive the agents behind the so-called ‘disinformation industry’.
