What we contemporarily call disinformation emerges as a multifaceted and complex phenomenon due to new technologies and algorithmic systems that even guarantee it an unprecedented reach in terms of dissemination. The current prevalence of disinformation appears to be directly related to the disruption of what we refer to as the epistemic-informational environment. The guests are working on projects that allow us to think about (i) the elements that contribute to this disruption and corrosion of trust in institutions and the establishment of a chaotic environment, and (ii) the reasons that drive the agents behind the so-called ‘disinformation industry’.

The international guest, Dani Madrid-Morales, from the University of Sheffield (UK), is a specialist in global political communication and international media flows, with a particular emphasis on the Global South. His research has been featured by leading international news outlets such as BBC World Service, CNN International, The Economist, Yomiuri Shimbun, and the Los Angeles Times. He is the author of Disinformation in the Global South (Wiley), among other publications, and works extensively on research methodologies in comparative disinformation studies.
